The calendar is easy to follow, even if the various symbols seem a bit overwhelming at first, and there’s a diary so you can keep track of what you should be doing when. There’s also a handy advice on companion planting, natural fertilisers and pesticides, and the best times for other activities — such as having your hair cut or making bread and wine.

If this book helped me harness just a fraction of the moons and magic, my crops in 2011 should be out of this world.
