As I sit writing in my nice warm office it is another beautiful sunny day, albeit rather cold! The temperature has dropped to -8˚C the past few nights and as a plant lover I fret for the wee bulbs that are emerging from the ground and ready to flower, they have held the promise of that flower deep inside their bulb for the past six months or more (just like we carry our babies). Realistically I know that they will be fine, that the elementals are looking after them and they will flower in right timing; yet I continue to fret. Twenty four hours later and we have had more snow and wind... what a perfect way to cleanse this area of the planet to prepare it for 2012!
Last month I told you I'd received my advance copies of PersonaliTrees. Trees are sentient beings with their own personalities and traits, all we need to do is learn how to recognise them. In her book Joan guides you to experience the personality within each tree, is this a Flamboyant tree or a Resolute one? A Heartbroken tree or a Haunted one? The book is now available in both our stores and I am sure the amazing images of trees will delight and fascinate you as much as they have done me.
I can't imagine what it must have been like to be incarcerated in a Siberian salt mine, which is what used to happen to political prisoners in Russia. Thanks to The Mysterious Story of X7 I can, at least, begin to understand the lives of some of those who were incarcerated. X7, as they called themselves, were able to link with the Network of Light, a planet-wide group of psychics working to bring about the New Age back in the 1960s and share their knowledge and experience with the network. This new edition has an introduction which suggests that what these people experienced is of critical value for humanity and, even more, for the future of the earth. If you live in North America, you will need to order this book from North Atlantic Books rather than us.
We know we are all one, we say that we are all one, but do we really act as if we are all one? Now using the meditations and exercises in the Blueprint of Oneness you can bring the energy of St Germain into your being, become fully aware of your oneness with all beings and experience a deeper connection to source. Just think Jesus, Mary, and the Budda all activated this Blueprint of Oneness from within - now you can too! Available in both our stores - early March except North America (late March).
Creativity, what is it? How do you express it? For me it is working in my garden, for you it might be sewing or cooking or maybe even drawing! If you sometimes feel you're not creative enough then Boston-based artist, Cat Bennett, has a new approach. She believes everyone can unlock their creativity through drawing. In her new book, The Confident Creative: Drawing to Free the Hand and Mind Cat offers simple techniques to develop drawing skills and shows you how to work with the mind to dissolve creative blocks, I shall certainly be following her advice and looking at ways of being more creative in my life! Available from both our stores immediately.
With the coming of spring not only we humans but also our animals often need a tune-up! Our special offer to you this month is an extra 20% discount on Bach Flower Remedies for Animals, Bach Flower Remedies for Dogs and Bach Flower Remedies for Cats. Whatever is ailing your much-loved pet can often be solved simply and gently using flower remedies.
My heads up this month is for Medical to Mystical: Bring Light into Your Life written by a medical doctor originally from Inverness not 25 miles away from where I sit writing and now living in Hong Kong. Dr Sue's book offers you the keys to a new way of understanding yourself and your surroundings and the light that is within and each one of us. I had great fun reading this prior to writing the back cover copy. The book will not be available for a few months but you can read an extract on our website and, of course, pre-order so that the book is mailed to you as soon as it becomes available.
I'm having great fun talking about our experiences of growing In Tune with the Moon on local radio gardening programmes, the snag is they usually take place on a Sunday and go out 'live'. So I'm thankful that BBC Hereford & Worcestershire pre-record my slot during the week prior to the programme being aired on the last Sunday of the month.
The Equinox will be passed by the time I write to you next so I hope you will all enjoy your celebration of Alban Eilir, Eostre, Festival of Trees, Lady Day, NawRuz, Ostara or the Rites of Spring. A time of fertility and blessing of the earth and the land so that our crops will grow well.
Love and Blessings,
Carol Shaw

Meet The Author

Meet Cat Bennett, the author of The Confident Creative:
Confident Creative - Drawing to Free the Hand and Mind because I believe that many of us loose a sense of creative freedom as we grow up and that we can get it back through drawing. Whether we're artists or not we can all draw and we can all use drawing to grow our creativity. Drawing, at the most basic level, is simply making marks on paper. But we can all learn to develop our drawing skills as well, even those of us whoíve been discouraged or feel we can't draw a thing! When little kids draw they haven't a thought in the world about making art. They draw for the sheer fun of seeing things emerge on the page, things that may or may not look like what they imagined. They draw to make sense of the world in their own way and to share their own experience of it. And they draw with enthusiasm, straight from their hearts without any sense of judgment. We can recapture that creative confidence as adults through drawing.
How? There are several ways. First, have you ever tried to solve a problem that requires a creative solution by thinking hard about it? Sometimes nothing comes and then, suddenly, when you're in the shower, or driving the car, a brilliant idea strikes. Drawing, by its very nature, takes us out of the linear‐thinking, verbal side of the brain into the spatial, imaginative side of the brain. It's here that ideas can emerge with ease. So, even if all we do is scribble and doodle, drawing can help us detach from the effort and limitations of linear thinking that can inhibit us.
If we work to grow our drawing skills, it can teach us even more. There are many ways to practice and each of them offers us a chance to re‐experience a sense of freedom and competence. For instance, if we work really large, say on paper five feet tall, we get the experience of diving into the unknown on a large scale. When weíve done this a few times, we soon see we're able to dive into all sorts of things without worrying whether the result will be perfect, or even anything like we expected. We learn there's no such thing as perfect, just the authentic experience of being ourselves - showing up, finding the courage to begin, making marks on this huge white paper, and seeing what weíve done. We can also delight in what we've done because it will be interesting, one way or another.
Picasso said, "It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child." Drawing can be a way to connect with the freedom we felt as children again and to explore our creativity in whatever wild, wondrous ways we wish. It will teach us to be humble and brave, open and authentic. And it can be something we just do for fun. Not a bad pay‐off!
Cat Bennett
